LEED Certification

The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification program is a goal oriented standard which uses a point system to calculate green goals relating to reduced site disturbance, increased energy performance, resource reuse, use of materials local to the project and the recycled content of building materials used.  Being a concerned consumer of our natural resources, Custom Metal Products can offer assistance with your LEED project.

Using information provided by our steel supplier’s “2008 Recycled Content” data sheet, which calculates the percentage of recycled content by total weight, Custom Metal Products offers the following information to help your Green Project.

Materials & Resources Credit 4: Recycled Content

Total Recycled Content Total Post Consumer Recycled Content Total Pre-Consumer (Post Industrial) Recycled Content
64.6% 57.4% 7.2%

Post-consumer recycled content is defined as waste material generated by households or by commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in their role as end-users of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose.

Pre-Consumer (Post-Industrial) recycled content refers to scraps that are left over during industrial or manufacturing processes and which are subsequently recycled and reused.

Materials & Resources Credit 5: Regional Materials

Steel doors and frames provided to your Green Building Project by Custom Metal Products are manufactured in our facility located in Wilmington, NC 28401.  Our location may contribute toward earning further LEED points pertaining to regional materials.
